Southern Rural Water’s winter works program is underway, highlighted by the automation of 151 customer outlets in the Macalister and Werribee irrigation districts.
Heyfield-based contractor McInnes Earthmoving Pty Ltd is undertaking the work to automate 81 customer outlets across the Macalister Irrigation District, which will be completed by Thursday, 15 August before the start of the irrigation season.
In Werribee, work is underway to automate 70 customer outlets, with all outlets scheduled to be automated by the end of the year. It is being delivered by contractor Rubicon as part of the Werribee Irrigation District Modernisation project.
Manager Capital Delivery, Nubia Pariyar, said automation will improve service to customers.
“An automated channel system means reduced maintenance costs and inconvenience to customers as channels will be more efficient.
“There will be no need for Southern Rural Water to manually turn outlets on and off and there will be fewer delays.
“It also means the end of meter reads, enabling water allocations and compliance decisions to be made in real time, saving time and resources,” Nubia said.
