The Willow Grove community are invited to have their say on Southern Rural Water’s carbon reforestation offsets proposal.
Southern Rural Water will host a community consultation drop-in session at Willow Grove Community Hall on Wednesday, 30 October from 2.30pm to 6.30pm. Residents are invited to drop in at any time to review the proposal and provide feedback.
Blue Rock Lake has been identified as one of several sites across Victoria owned by Southern Rural Water as a suitable location to generate carbon reforestation offsets to achieve the organisation’s net-zero greenhouse gas emissions target.
The carbon reforestation offsets proposal involves planting trees to capture carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
Planting involves a mixture of native and local tree, shrub and understorey species to establish new and permanent forest cover. These projects earn one Australian Carbon Credit Unit (ACCU) for each tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2-e) sequestered by trees as they grow.
Managing Director Cameron FitzGerald said every community member is encouraged to drop in at the community hall to speak to the team about the proposal.
“We are committed to sharing our proposal with the community and listening to their feedback,” he said.
“The drop-in session is an ideal opportunity for the community to learn more about the proposed carbon reforestation offsets, to speak in person with project staff and experts, and to provide their feedback on the proposal.
“The community will be able to consider our proposal and provide their feedback via an online survey on the day.”
Full details of the proposal will be available on our project page for those unable to attend the drop-in session. People have an opportunity to provide feedback until Wednesday 13 November when the online survey closes.
We will continue to update the project page with the latest information.
