Southern Rural Water is calling for Expressions of Interest from Werribee growers to join a customer reference group for the Werribee System Reconfiguration Project.
The Werribee System Reconfiguration Project was identified as part of the Central and Gippsland Region Sustainable Water Strategy, which requests the investigation of opportunities to expand irrigation through new recycled water and stormwater supplies in the Werribee catchment.
Southern Rural Water is a partner agency for the project, which is exploring opportunities to improve the future management of water resources in the Werribee catchment. The project will:
- look at opportunities to improve the reliability, security and quality of irrigation water supplies in the Werribee catchment
- boost urban water supply to accommodate population growth
- relieve the stressed Werribee River system by returning water to the environment; and
- return water to Traditional Owners
The purpose of the customer reference group is to provide feedback on solutions to improving the supply and quality of irrigation water and thus securing the future of production in the district. It is open to Werribee Regulated System entitlement holders and /or primary producers operating in the Werribee Irrigation District.
An Expression of Interest form is available here. Applications close on Tuesday 5 December.
