Licenced groundwater users across southern Victoria can now buy and sell permanent or temporary entitlement at our new online groundwater trade room.
Groundwater is a valuable resource for many of our customers across southern Victoria and systems are capped to ensure water is sustainably managed. Trade is the main way new users gain access to groundwater.
Our new groundwater trade room provides an easier way for buyers and sellers to connect and transparently and securely trade to free up available water for productive use.
The new trade platform will provide public access to historic trade price data, allowing you to make more informed decisions about the groundwater market rates when trading water.
We successfully trialled the online groundwater trade room with customers in south west Victoria and we’re delighted to open it up many more customers across our service area.
South west Victoria has been particularly hard hit by the season’s dry conditions and we know there are other customers in other regions who could really benefit from accessing available groundwater through trade.
Groundwater levels are relatively healthy across southern Victoria. For example, in some areas, annual metered use is typically between 30 to 45 percent of entitlement and this means there are opportunities for licence holders to trade.
The new groundwater online trade room buying and selling process is safe and secure and users will be supported by Southern Rural Water and Water Partners through the trade process.
Customers with groundwater licences must register on the Southern Rural Water Exchange platform to be able to trade by visiting: www.srwexchange.waterpartners.org.au
