Southern Rural Water has received a groundwater application from Alcoa, for the pumping of groundwater to fill the mine.
Southern Rural Water will consider the groundwater application by Alcoa under a rigorous and transparent process, which will include the opportunity for the community to provide written submissions and to support those submissions at a public hearing.
Currently, Southern Rural Water is assessing if the application has all the required information. If the application is determined to have all the required information, Southern Rural Water will provide the community and stakeholders with an opportunity to provide feedback.
All applications of this type are advertised publicly and Southern Rural Water is required to consider and give weight to issues raised by local communities and other interested parties.
Southern Rural Water is responsible for licensing and compliance and assessing and administering groundwater licences in southern Victoria.
