We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace across all segments of our business. This includes increasing the number of Aboriginal voices in water management decisions and supporting more Aboriginal people to join our workforce. It’s why we’re looking for the right person to join our Board as an Independent Aboriginal Delegate.
In our experience, when culture, collaboration and innovation collide in safe and respectful work environments great things can happen. It’s this philosophy that has supported us returning water to Traditional Owners on the Wangangarra/Wy Yung (Mitchell River), Palawarra (Fitzroy River), Berrawan (Tambo River) and Buchan Munji (Buchan Caves).
This opportunity supports a program of developing board capability and increasing the number of Aboriginal directors across public sector boards in Victoria.
We are inviting applications from Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people who are passionate about water and the environment and building culturally safe workplaces.
This paid, part-time, 12-month position is a great development opportunity that will allow the right person a chance to build their capability and knowledge and provide a pathway for future board opportunities and other valuable skills.
Previous board experience is not required for this role.
General Manager, Strategy, People & Culture Elisa Hunter said the Independent Aboriginal Delegate position will provide insights on strategic policy that support self-determination.
“This is an exciting opportunity to inform the direction of Aboriginal water management initiatives at the highest level,” she said.
“We are looking for an exceptional candidate who can help us continue to support fair and equitable resource sharing and develop a culturally safe workplace that makes us an employer of choice for First Nations people.”
Elisa said professional development will be provided to the successful candidate to develop governance skills relevant to public sector boards.
“We will provide funding for the successful candidate to attend a company director’s course or similar governance program,” she said.
“They will also gain knowledge and experience through the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action networks and by participating in our board and committee meetings.”
This role requires travel to Southern Rural Water office locations and other locations around Victoria as required for board and other meetings.
Applications for this role closes on Sunday, 25 August.
