Southern Rural Water has started work on a region-building water strategy called Macalister Fresh that will deliver a vision and plan to drive future investment in Gippsland.

More growers in Werribee can look forward to a more efficient and secure water supply with the completion of the Werribee Irrigation District Stage 4 modernisation.

Southern Rural Water is inviting customers to apply to become members of the Macalister Customer Consultative Committee (MCCC). 

A new online water trading platform will provide Macalister Irrigation District with access to manage water sales and trades.   

Southern Rural Water has undertaken improvement works on the Macalister Irrigation District’s Main Northern and Main Southern channel siphons this winter. 

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued an El Nino watch, indicating a 50 percent chance of an El Nino this year, with modelling suggesting sea surface temperatures will be met or exceeded by August of this winter.

Customers in the Macalister Irrigation District are reminded that the 2022-23 irrigation season will finish on 15 May 2022.

The Newry pipeline contract was announced in September 2022 and will be delivered as part of Phase 2 of the $159.7 million Macalister Irrigation District modernisation program.
