It’s all systems go on the Werribee Irrigation District Modernisation Project, as work is underway to construct a new regulator inside Southern Rural Water’s irrigation channel at Tarneit Street.
The new regulator is a key component of works as part of the Stage 5 of the Werribee Irrigation District Modernisation Project and is being undertaken concurrently as pipeline and customer outlet automation works, which started in May and June respectively.
Over 8.3 kilometres of new pipeline is to be installed and 70 customer outlets automated by the end of 2024.
Program Lead Werribee Irrigation District Modernisation Belal Chundoo said these works were important for our farming future.
“A regulator is a structure that holds and measures water in a channel, and the new regulator at Tarneit Street will improve the delivery of irrigation water downstream to farmers in Werribee South,” he said.
Construction is within Southern Rural Water’s existing easement and is expected to be complete by October 2024.
